Benefits of Suspension Training
Looking to spice up your exercise routine?
Looking for a workout routine you can do at home?
Looking for a workout you can bring with you almost anywhere so you can get in those vacation workouts?
You want to try suspension training! Suspension training uses a system of ropes and cables that enables you to use your body weight against gravity to provide resistance.
You already know what suspension training is - you just know it as TRX. TRX is a brand name for suspension bands (like Kleenex is a brand name for tissues). So you’ve heard of it. You’ve seen it in our Studio (or wherever else you workout if you’re not a New Yorker).
But maybe you’ve been afraid to try it, or not really sure how it can benefit you. So here are some amazing benefits of suspension training to encourage you to give it a try!
1. Builds Core Strength - The unstable nature of suspension training forces you to constantly engage your core to maintain balance and stability in almost every exercise you do. You can’t cheat either because if you don’t engage your core you won’t be able to perform the exercises properly.
2. Focuses on Functional Strength - Movements you do in suspension training translate well into everyday life - you’ll be doing pushing, pulling, and hinging motions as well as moving up and down, laterally side to side and twisting.
3. Something for Everyone - Regardless of your fitness level, suspension training can work for you. There are a TON of exercises you can perform and nearly all of them can be modified so you can succeed and still get a workout.
4. Low risk of injury - As compared to training with free weights, there is less risk for injury with suspension training because it is easier on the joints. Many of the exercises work on mobility and flexibility in addition to strength training.
5. Portable - You can bring your TRX bands with you almost anywhere - so you can bring your workout to a hotel room, park or relative’s house. No excuses for not keeping up with your workout when you’re traveling.
So the next time you’re in the mood to add something new to your exercise routine, consider suspension training. If you want more information, feel free to ask us about it next time you are in the Studio!
