Summer has definitely arrived bringing an abundance of sunshine, vacation plans, and heat. The heat and humidity in the northeast the past few weeks has been something else. We wrote a few weeks ago about staying hydrated in the summer heat, and today we’re going to share some more tips that will help you stay hydrated AND healthy.
While it is super important to make sure you’re drinking enough water - half your body weight in ounces, in fact - you can also add some refreshing and hydrating summer fruits to your diet. Now we know with today’s technology you can get many of these fruits year round. But it’s always nicer to eat them when they’re fresh and in season, so take a look at our list and go out and grab some of your favorites!
7 Best Summer Fruits for Hydration
Watermelon is one of those fruits that always makes people think of summer. Watermelon is 92% water, so not only is it tasty and refreshing, it can also help you stay hydrated.
June is strawberry season and strawberries are a great addition to your breakfast smoothies or on top of your morning oatmeal. Strawberries are also very hydrating since they are 94% water and they also contain several vitamins and nutrients like vitamin C, manganese, potassium, and vitamin B.
Cantaloupes are a fun summer fruit that contain several vitamins and minerals. A one cup serving of cantaloupe has all the vitamin A you need for the day. It is also about 90% water so they are great for hydration on a warm summer day as well.
Also around 90% water, Grapes are a fun snack that are easy to eat on the go. They are full of antioxidants, potassium, and lutein which promotes eye health.
Mangoes only ripen in summer and are great for making a summer-themed salsa. They contain fiber for digestive health. One cup of mango has 25% of the daily recommended amount of vitamin A.
Another good source of fiber is peaches, a good reason to snack on them despite the fact that they can be a bit messy. Along with antioxidants which help reduce inflammation, peaches are rich in vitamins A, C and E along with potassium.
Blueberries and Raspberries are another superfood. Just half a cup contains 3 grams of fiber, good for digestion and regulating your blood sugar. They also contain a high amount of vitamin C and are low in calories.
