Unlocking the FUN in Functional Fitness

Mobility training focuses on improving the range of motion of the joints and muscles and increasing strength through those end ranges. It is essential for enhancing functional movement, reducing the risk of injury, and improving athletic performance.

Benefits of regular mobility work include:
•alleviating muscle stiffness
•increased joint stability
•improved posture
•faster recovery from exercise

Mobility training is crucial for maintaining long-term health and well-being, especially as we age or engage in regular physical activity. Buuut, for big kids like us, it also unlocks a world of possibilities to learn fun and impressive skills such as the yoga move of the week which is bow pose, also known as Dhanurasana in Sanskrit.

A couple weeks ago in our Fit Friday newsletter, we learned that yoga uses Sanskrit, an ancient and sacred language to express the various movements. Dhanurasana breaks down into two words “Dhanur”, bow and “asana”, pose or posture. If there was ever a move that required strength through a full range of motion, bow pose is it! You’re lying on your stomach, bending your knees and reaching back to grab your ankles while keeping your chest open and elevated. This can be an advanced pose, however there are also a variety of versions you can try including using a strap!

There are different ways you can work on mobility through various exercises, stretches, and yoga classes. Motion is lotion for the joints - so let’s keep moving so we can keep moving!

Best in Health,
