Workout to Feel Good and Be Happy
Working out should be less about chasing that perfect Instagram-worthy physique and more about feeling good and staying positive.
First off, let's get real. When we focus solely on how we look, we are setting ourselves up for a never-ending cycle of dissatisfaction. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others or to an idealized version of ourselves that might not even be achievable or sustainable. But if we shift our mindset from appearance to how we feel, working out becomes so much more enjoyable and meaningful.
Think about it - when you exercise regularly, you’re not just burning calories or building muscle, you’re boosting your mood with endorphins, you know, those lovely little chemicals in your brain that make you feel happier.
This makes exercise a fantastic stressbuster. It helps you deal with life’s difficulties by giving you a break from whatever is stressing you out, and it’s a fantastic way to clear your head. You have to focus on the here and now, on your body moving on your breath, and suddenly, your worries do not seem so overwhelming.
Regular exercise can improve your self-esteem and body image in ways that focusing only on appearance never will. When you realize what your body is capable of, whether it is lifting heavier weights, running a bit further, or just feeling more energetic, you start to appreciate it in a new way. You are not just looking good, you are feeling stronger and more confident.
Now, the social aspect. Working out can be a fantastic way to connect with others, whether you’re joining a group fitness class, playing a sport, or just meeting a friend for a walk. These social interactions can boost your mood and provide a sense of community and support.
It’s not just about the physical results; it’s about the relationships you build along the way and the shared experiences that make exercise enjoyable. I, as a new trainer to the Studio, quickly took notice of the camaraderie that comes with the SPT classes.
When you approach working out with a focus on feeling good, it becomes less of a chore and more of a positive, uplifting part of your routine. You start to look forward to your workouts as a time to de-stress and rejuvenate rather than a punishment or a means to an end.
So, next time you’re lacing up your sneakers or heading to the gym or the studio, try shifting your focus from the mirror to how you feel. Celebrate those little victories like having more energy, feeling less stressed, or just enjoying the process. Embrace the idea that working out is a gift you give to yourself, not just in terms of physical appearance but in how it enhances your overall well-being and keeps you smiling.
Here is a quick workout to BOOST mood, hopefully instantaneous:
All these can be modified. Just keep moving! :-)
Jumping Jacks: Start with 30 seconds of jumping jacks to get your heart rate up and blood flowing. This classic move is great for warming up and boosting energy.
Bodyweight Squats: Do 15-20 squats, focusing on your form and making each movement count. Squats engage your major muscle groups and help release those feel-good endorphins.
Push-Ups: Aim for 10-15 push-ups. If standard push-ups are too challenging, modify by doing them on your knees or against a wall. Push-ups work your upper body and core, helping you feel strong and accomplished.
High Knees: Finish with 30 seconds of high knees, running in place and lifting your knees as high as possible. This exercise gets your heart pumping and adds a fun cardio element to the mix.
I am sure you will find these exercises sprinkled in sometimes in the SPT, HIIT, or BBB classes at the Studio.
